Where Shadows Fall in Shadows

They say shadows are deepest at 3 in the morning; that this strange hour is when most deaths occur. But she had finally come to know there is a place where shadows fall even deeper than 3 am, a place where first and last steps, beginnings and endings began. She looked out over the beach towards the ocean and thought back to the morning, this morning, when her last step on that journey began.

She realized it was actually the last step in a long series of last steps. Loss upon loss, each loss building upon another. It was the deepest end of many deep ends. It was the deep end from which she could no longer rise to the surface.

She had lost so much over the long years that at first she thought it would be just one more loss among many- but this time, it was different….
