Eschate – A Sanctuary for the Heart, An Adventure for the Mind

And so it begins.

“In order to build a kingdom, surround yourself with knights. True friends who will protect you, even if it means protecting you from your own wayward self.” C. Joybell C.

This site has been a long time coming. Long before home computers, I began writing one of the stories and poems you will find here. I had completed about 200 pages of the original tale only to have,  while at a library, the manuscript vanish. It was never recovered, but fortunately, I had kept some rough notes, so started the process of building the story again.

But a funny thing happened along the years. I continued to write and add to the original story format, but songs, poems, short stories and snippets kept flooding my mind and demanded to be put on paper. In the course of time, a few other people contributed their own snippets and poems and short stories to the world I created in my stories. They also sent along other poems and tales, and these will be added here as permitted by the original authors.

This site is the result. In here, you will find a story that lends itself to interaction with its readers, should you find yourself dreaming of the Homeworld. Here, you will find tales of warriors- but not warriors you might expect. Here, you will find a King, but not a king you would expect. Here, you will enter temples, join clans and meet Companions and adversaries. Here, you will find poems of longing, loss, friendship, intrigue; here you will find politics, history, human nature and the vagaries of life, space and time.

And who knows? Amidst the songs, stories and poems, you might well find a place you belong, a home. We’ll keep a light on for the wanderers, those still searching in the dark for that tiny beacon…

What You Will Find Here: Stories, Poems and Other Works About Ancient Worlds, Known and Unknown

ESCHATE is a celebration of worlds in time and space, of the creative spirit and the stories we all hold within us.

Alexandropolis is our virtual community for those interested in writing about the ancient world of Earth, from the Bronze Age to the last day of 1 BC. Writers can focus on real characters or invented ones, so long as they fit the constraints of the times (in other words, no cars, no cellphones, etc). Your work can be fiction or non-fiction. You can offer stories, vignettes or novellas, novels, poems, songs, or artwork.

But you can also write about a world unknown, a time before time! For this, visit the Fliit Ridan World and the Fliit Ridan Chronicles and discover a new history, a new world to belong to and to explore. Here, you will find a place where you, too, can become a member of the Fliit Ridan, write your own stories or discover within one of those names already listed as found in the Ko’ Alescere a kindred spirit to write about (go first to Fliit Ridan Chronicles and visit The Companions Speak)!

Finally, you will find stories and poems from under the Muses section expressing passion, pothos and the human condition- after all, the Muses inspire but do not determine where that inspiration wanders! You’ll also find our Writer’s Challenge, in which we invite our writer’s to try their hand at creating a poem, story, song or artwork around a word, phrase, sentence or question.

Be aware, we have writer’s guidelines, so be sure to inquire.  Works will be vetted for quality and adherence to the constraints of time and place if appropriate.

We also accept collaborations, but be sure to credit all writers. You must indicate how you want the credit written, the date the work was finished. All materials will be signed as copyrighted by the original authors. If you wish, you can put your work under the auspices of Eschate, but copyright notice will still include your name as copyright holder.

Writers may remove their work at any time, but please give two weeks’ notice.

Respect copyright- you may NOT remove, copy, print or share any work not your own without the express written permission of the original author and  Eschate.
