Truths
TRUTHS
They tell me, beloved, that God is enough for man.
They tell me Life is sorrow:
Human love betrays,
Hearts break,
The body dies.
They lead me to the altar of stone and tears
And demand I pledge my soul to their truth.
But then, unbidden amidst the “Hallelujahs”,
Come memories of your eyes
Reflecting your soul’s warmth.
I recall your great heart,
Your honor bright and burning,
Your fidelity and loyalty against all challenges,
Your courage against all struggles…
In you lived love, and wisdom,
And wonder.
I feel again the altar of your flesh,
Your fiery passion
And know my truth:
That God is enough of Man,
For man to love man.
And I turn and walk away.
