For the Red Lady
FOR THE RED LADY
Fire-tressed lady, Argus-eyed,
Of questing heart and piercing mind-
You ask too many questions, so bear this well in mind:
There are many puzzling answers, some you may wish you didn’t find.
Remember, always, my lady fair,
There are things better left unsaid;
For the world is wide and old and unknown,
And the answers strange and twisted to which your quest be wed.
Why, pallid lady, do you ask
after answers beyond your ken?
Hark well to this adage, shining daughter of Eve:
Many truths are best hidden ‘tween the Triad and Men!
Vulpine lady, Cabiri-born,
Be content. Let things be as they are;
For the truth lies in moondust and madness and tears
And a searing desire for a lone, traveling star.
